In 1985 Father George W., Tom S., and Bob M. lovingly opened this house to struggling alcoholics, and named this A.A. club “The Dragon’s Den.”

Since that day, thousands of people have passed through the doors of the Den in quiet desperation. An immeasurable number of lives have been saved. ”The Den” as it is referred to by its active members is a place of recovery for the following programs, Alcoholics Anonymous, Al Anon, Cocaine Anonymous, Prescription Pill Anonymous and Overeater’s Anonymous. Recovery is happening 7 days a week at “The Den”.

SWSN provides emergency overnight shelter on life-threatening winter nights for the single individuals living on the streets in West Arapahoe and Jefferson counties. Volunteers welcome guests by name and provide a hot meal and a bed roll on severe weather nights from October through April each year.

They do this by partnering with churches and other non-profits to provide shelter and warm meals on nights that are deemed "Severe Weather."

Sanctuary is a backup local for the Severe Weather Shelter Network.

Hammersmith meets at Sanctuary, and its students spend two days a week in the classroom covering history, Bible, and literature, as well as nature studies and artist and composer studies. The remainder of the students’ education is parent-led (parents take the lead on reading, writing, math, and any other subjects of interest). The classes taught at school are supplemented with reading and practice throughout the week at home, and the skills taught at home are practiced through the course of study at school.
