WHAT WE BELIEVE

  • The Bible

The Bible is God’s record of what happened from the beginning of time. It helps us see who God is, who we are, and why we were created. It also reveals how this world got broken and God’s plan to make things right. We are comforted, convicted, challenged, and changed by what it contains. We believe it is 100% true and 100% accurate and that it will transform our lives for the better if we let it.

  • God

God is our loving creator and Father. He is active in our world today, the preserver of all truth, and has gone to incredible extremes so we can have a relationship with Him through Jesus. One day, He will take His followers home, where we will spend eternity with Him. We understand from the Bible that God created all that there is and that He is the ultimate source of power, truth, and freedom in life, and he is for us.

  • Jesus Christ

Jesus is God’s only Son, who was willing to leave the perfection of heaven to come to Earth as a man, willingly giving His life as a sacrifice to pay for our sins.  His life was so pure and holy that death couldn’t hold Him in.  three days after He died on the cross and came back to life (resurrected). The next time Jesus comes, it will be with power to set everything right and heal what is broken.  Jesus’ teachings are the most crucial tool for us in navigating this life in a way that pleases God.

  • Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the helper Jesus promised to send to us after He left earth.  The Holy Spirit is God and actively works to lead us back to Him, helping us stay on track seeking and honoring God.  He empowers us to do things we couldn’t do ourselves, like forgive people, love, believe, and serve.

  • Getting Right with God

The world and everything in it were created perfect, but things broke when humanity chose to do life apart from God. That brokenness is called sin, separating us from God and messing up our lives both now and in the future.   No matter how hard we work to fix things on our own or how good we try to be, there is no way for us to make things right with God.  God was the one who fixed everything when Jesus agreed to die to take the penalty for our sins and restore us to God. When we accept Jesus as our replacement and commit ourselves to live for Him, God sees us restored to the way He made us.

While God offers this gift of salvation to everyone, it requires faith on our part.  We see the first Christians responding to God’s solution to our sin problem:

    • Developing an active faith in Jesus and the Bible that endures for the rest of our lives.

    • Confessing we are sinners and Jesus is our much-needed Savior and Lord.

    • Changing the way we think and turning away from the way we once lived (the Bible calls that repentance) and living for Christ from now on.

    • Identifying with Jesus by being baptized is our personal choice. Our baptism unites us with Christ and the church and communicates that we are giving up on our way of living and instead living for God’s purposes.

    • Desiring to be known by everyone as a devoted follower of Jesus (which the Bible calls a disciple)

  • The Church

The Church is all who believe in Jesus,  his death for sin and his resurrection. It's a community of people who strengthen each other and help more people get right with God. It is a family of imperfect people serving a perfect and holy God. The Church is the body of Christ on the earth, and God's design is that all followers of Jesus are a committed part of a local church.

Doctrinal Beliefs

The Lordship and Sovereignty of Jesus Christ

In all we are and do, our foundation and focus will always be the honor and lordship of Jesus Christ and all things will be for His glory. Furthermore, understanding that with God all things are possible, our mission and ministry shall be limited only in those ways God Himself determines. We shall allow our hearts, minds, and souls to be stretched by the hand of God as He shapes and fashions us as a Church according to His perfect will.

The Authority of Scripture

The authority of our ministry begins and ends with the Word of God as we submit ourselves to its teaching, do what it says, and yield our lives to become what Christ desires us to be.

The Importance of Reflecting God’s Image

We are created in the image of God. We are ambassadors for Christ to this earth. We lift up the importance of reflecting the holiness and beauty of our maker, allowing others to see Him through us in a clear and appealing way.

The Supremacy of Unconditional Love

The love of God has been freely demonstrated to us. God sent Jesus Christ to this world from a heart of love. God's love never fails. We shall lift up unconditional love as the supreme spiritual gift and the standard for excellence in our lives and ministry.

A Lifestyle of Discipleship and Servanthood

We stress the imperative nature of continuing a relationship with Jesus Christ through the discipleship process. We shall deny ourselves, take up our crosses and follow Him with the daily goal of growing in His grace and knowledge. We do this with a humble servant’s heart, willingness to wash the feet of the needy, and gratefulness for every opportunity to serve Christ and His people.

An Emphasis on Evangelism and Missions

We believe Jesus Christ alone is the way to salvation. Our ministry calls for a strong emphasis on taking the Good News of Jesus Christ to our community and around the world.

The Strength of Prayer

Prayer is our direct point of access to God the Father through Jesus Christ. Observing the importance of prayer in Jesus’ life and ministry, our lives and ministries will be undergirded and bathed in prayer if we are to expect the blessing, power, and presence of God’s Holy Spirit to rest upon us.

An Atmosphere of Accountability

Authentic Christian discipleship requires total commitment. We believe the biblical expectation calls for loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We shall live and minister with integrity and responsibility, as well as personal and corporate accountability

An Investment in People and a Focus on the Family

Understanding people to be God’s most significant creation and realizing Christ’s mission was and is to redeem the spirit of each person eternally, our investments shall foundationally be in people.

We recognize the family as God’s ordered pattern for our lives. We realize the significance of the home in the Christian life and development. Therefore, we shall be committed to strengthening the spiritual lives of families as they seek to build their homes on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ.

A Spirit-Led Worship

Personal and corporate worship is vital to Christian growth. We shall strive for a worship experience that focuses on our relationship with Jesus Christ. This relationship is authenticated by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit and brings us into a fresh and holy encounter with God.

Freedom to Innovate and Change

We recognize the eternal and unchanging nature of God’s Word and the ongoing need for ministries to change and innovate to effectively facilitate the sharing of the Word and the growth of God’s kingdom.

A Streamlined Ministry Approach

Desiring effectiveness and maximum potential in every area of ministry, we shall operate with as much simplicity of organization and structure as possible. We believe in the importance of being doers of the Word.

OUR TEAM

Kwame Warner

Interim Pastor

Interests/Passions:

Once, Jesus shared a parable about a lost sheep, illustrating how a shepherd would leave ninety-nine sheep to find the one that strayed. This story resonates deeply with me, mirroring my own journey of being found by Jesus. It inspired my life's mission: to "Love God, Love People, and Introduce the Two."

I am crazy in love with my wife, Mkale, and our daughters: Jimmerlyn, Kayla, Kaylee and

Doo-Whop. The cherries on top are my grandchildren, Leilana and Lennox, who bring major joy into our lives.

My passions extend to photography, music, and travel, always eager to experience and discover new things. I cherish enjoying great food with amazing friends and living out my purpose with every day that passes.

That's a glimpse into The Kwam. But there's more to the story, and I'd love to share it with you as we get to know each other. Kwame out. LOL

Paul Lowe

Youth Pastor

Hometown: Detroit, Michigan

Interests/Passions:

I want to begin with an apology. I do not have a faux hawk, fresh kicks, wear sunglasses inside or a beanie in the summer. I’m not going to impress you or your children with how cool I am. However, I am going to love you with all my heart, soul, mind and strength as Christ has loved me. I’ve been doing youth ministry for over a decade in various venues from the church, to the football field and the classroom. One thing I love about teenagers is that they are natural philosophers (I have a BS in Philosophy, not a joke). I have a lot of great ideas, but I imagine you do too! I would love to hear what and how you want to help me reach the youth in our church and beyond. You are free to take me out for breakfast, lunch or dinner and share with me how you would like to help disciple the next generation! I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know you. Oh, and if you want to know, I have an M. Div. from Denver Seminary, have been married 17 years and am the father of the smartest and cutest 3 year old you have ever met.

Shannon Burcham

Worship Leader

Hometown: Denver, Colorado

Interests/Passions:

I have been leading worship in some capacity for the last 25 years. I am passionate about the power of worshipping with other believers. I love creating a safe and honest space for people to engage with the Lord through worship, and in turn, grow in their knowledge and understanding of Jesus's love for them. I am married to David, and have three daughters.
